Colloids V Mobsters – Sunday 13th Sept 2014 (Game 1)

photo 3(1)The 2014 / 2015 season kicked off on a mild Sunday afternoon with the mighty Oids taking on a new look Mobsters. Despite the Mobsters relatively unsuccessful summer recruitment drive, only managing to attract average players from the lesser teams in the Yau Yee, they started the game confidently. In keeping with Colloids tradition we found ourselves a goal down early on in the season opener, but we can take heart from  lasting longer than the 23 seconds it took to concede last season! Good work lads!

The first half was relatively uneventful, as we struggled to play our Barcelona style passing game after a long summer break. Fortunately with a few minutes of the half remaining, Wozza decided it was time to unleash his 30 second burst he brings to every game. Strolling out from the back, bouncing through tackles and playing a defense splitting ball to Rod. In true Ashley Young style Rod went down quicker than bird in 109 and won himself a peno. Fortunately with hours of practice under his belt there was only going to be one outcome. He coolly stepped up and slotted the ball two foot wide of the post!

The second half was a different story. We got into our stride and started to dominate proceedings. Some astute and timely substitutions from the management team, kept the energy high and we eventually got our deserved equalizer. Mark demanding the ball out wide, laying it on for Phil (Touch) who put in a quality cross for Mich to swoop in with a perfectly timed swan dive and force the ball over the line. The crowd went wild…Barney spilt a drop of his cider! It looked like we could go on and win it but time ran out so we had to settle for a point.

In summary a top effort all around. Great turn out, great team spirit before, during and after the game. I think we answered some questions today but one key question remains….will Rods penalty training program now include a goalkeeper??!

Well Done Lads!

Thanks for mentioning the 30 second burst which happened when I was getting particularly frustrated! The goal came from us switching the play very quickly over to Mark, who as you say held his wide position well and there was a clear overload which I noticed.

I thought Rod was going to look the other way and trick the keeper into thinking he wasn’t taking a shot at all .
