WE ARE THE PEOPLE !

SOTON_2560x1440.jpg I have no idea who took this picture, I was searching the internet for hours before I eventually found the photo I was looking for.

The choice of this shot is perfect. Was it taken from an HD video? Whatever it is, it’s genius.

The players are not in the middle of the picture and this helpfully hints that this “snap shot” is not about them, this is further compounded by the fact that the crowd are all in focus and the players less so. The focus of everyone’s attention in this picture, is not the focus of the voyeur, making this picture an absolute work of art. It is simply amazing!

I look at this picture and I smile, there are simply millions of stories that could come from this one photo, it is mind blowing. Look at all the people! The two people in the front  row, cheering with their outstretched arms, they are so close to the action that they look like they want to jump into the bundle of players in front of them on the pitch. The man behind them has been distracted to miss the moment, in fact he’s just realised that he has spent way too much money on a not very good phone. The man behind him is trying to tell his mate, he is missing it. To the right of them, one man has been waiting for this day, for longer than he can remember, that his team were winning 1-0 at the “fortress Anfield” of the renowned, historic, Liverpool FC, against Brendan Rogers renaissance team (I could go on!)

There are so many faces, so many different people that share the love for the game. Different shapes and sizes, yes, I know you’ve seen the big guy in the bottom right and now you’re laughing, but you know when you first saw this picture he was just another man in the crowd sharing the same love, passion and enjoyment that every man, woman and child around him that day, collectively shared at exactly the same moment, something that they will all tell their friends about, their  family members about, for the rest of their lives.

Every person in this photo is my hero, is my passion, is my reason for so many life choices and it’s not because they are Southampton, it’s not because they are beating Liverpool. It is because when you strip those colours away and remove the team branding, put aside the difference of patriotically waving the flags and remember singing in choirs of 100’s or 1000’s of people you’ve probably never met before, songs that you all get merry from, songs that you sing with men, women, children, adults, fat, thin, black, white, Muslim, Christian, atheists, “aliens”, you name it, you remind yourself that we are all brought together by our shared one true love, football.

Football makes me happy! I’m so happy right now, if you believe in this, sign up here and now and I’ll give you free lifetime membership.
